After getting married in August 2011, we headed off as newlyweds to Cochabamba, Bolivia in October to work with MAP International-Bolivia. While the main purpose was finishing my Master's in International Development, we had many hopes and dreams for our time there- to learn, grow, and improve our Spanish to name a few. Although we planned to be there for a year, we encountered some twists and turns which eventually led us to leaving earlier than we expected. Despite being there for only a short time, we truly enjoyed meeting everyone from MAP and loved becoming part of the community even if it was in a small way. It was a great first step in what we hope will be a lifetime of international living.
In January 2012 we moved to Panajachel, Guatemala. Rachel works with a local NGO called Mayan Families as the Education Program Coordinator. Originally, Daniel was working part-time at a local English speaking school and at a local restaurant. In August he began working full-time at Mayan Families alongside Rachel in the Education/Child Sponsorship Program. He also provides technical support and does tech-savvy tasks like making videos. During our time abroad we have learned a lot about ourselves as individuals and as a married couple. We are also learning a lot about development work, international living, cross-cultural friendships, living simply and life in general. This blog is a way for us to keep in touch with family and friends and a way to share our joys, hopes, struggles, prayer requests and reflections on what we are learning. Thanks for journeying alongside us. We are grateful for your love & support!
